GLENSIDE, Pa. -- The Arcadia women's volleyball team picked up a pair of 3-0 wins on Friday night, defeating Scranton and DeSales on day one of the 2018 Knight Invitational.
 
The Knights (12-4) dispatched Scranton 25-23, 25-16, 25-16, and came right back to blank the Bulldogs 25-23, 25-19, 25-22.
 
Arcadia seized control of the first set against Scranton with a late 4-1 scoring run that turned a 16-16 deadlock into a 20-17 lead. The Royals with three of the next four points to make it 21-20, but two late kills from Lauren Enfield and one from Lizzie Joseph sealed the opening-set win for AU. In the second set, AU trailed 11-10, but took advantage of a 9-1 scoring burst to assume a 19-12 lead and win the second comfortably. The third set followed a similar script, with the Knights exerting their will midway through the match en route to the win.
 
Enfield led the Knights with 14 kills and hit .333. Shannon Ryan and Allison Elechko each had 10 kills. Julia Paliwodzinski racked up 40 assists and eight digs, and Emily Eng led the way with 15 digs. Maddie Sehrt and Katie Wilson each had three block assists, with Wilson adding a solo effort as well.
 
The Knights held the Royals to a .000 hitting percentage for the match, and no Scranton player reached double figures in kills. Kristin Kirwan led the way with nine kills, Kindler Norman had 23 assists and Regina Schetroma led the team with 12 digs.
 
The Scarlet & Grey needed a big comeback in the first set to produce their sweep of DeSales. The Knights trailed 22-16 in the opening set but scored nine of the final 10 points of the set to seize momentum in the match.
 
Following a kill from Ryan, Emily Eng took over serving duties and got the Knights back in the match, with the help of five attacking errors by the Bulldogs, as AU took a 24-22 lead. A service error by Eng with a chance to close out the set was followed by a block from Paliwodzinksi and Sehrt on an attack attempt by DeSales' Noel Kelly for a 1-0 lead in the match.
 
The second set featured far less drama. A 6-0 run by Arcadia turned a 12-10 deficit into a 16-12 lead on a block courtesy of Enfield and Becca Campf. DeSales got within three at 19-16, but would pull no closer. In the third set, the Knights took a 4-3 lead and never trailed again, gradually pulling away and completing the shutout.
 
Elechko led the Knights with 11 kills, while Ryan and Enfield contributed seven and six, respectively. Campf chipped in five kills to go with a solo block and four block assists. Enfield also had 12 digs, Eng had 20 and Paliwodzinski added nine while passing out 29 assists. Enfield also had four service aces.
 
The Knights are back on the court on day two of the 2018 Knight Invitational when they take on Hunter at 11 a.m.
