GLENSIDE, Pa. -- The Arcadia men's basketball team improved to 10-2 on the season with a convincing 90-47 win over Bryn Athyn on Wednesday evening at Alumni Gymnasium.
Â
The Knights' defense, a trademark of the Scarlet & Grey through 12 games, limited Bryn Athyn to 26.8 percent shooting as the Lions hit on just 15 of 56 field goal attempts and committed 21 turnovers. Arcadia also held a 47-30 edge on the glass and shot 23 of 27 (.852) from the free-throw line compared to a 9 of 18 mark (.500) for the Lions.
Â
The Knights' seventh win in a row is believed to be the longest win streak in some 20 years.
Â
Three early triples by the Lions' (3-10) Larry Stevenson III put Bryn Athyn up 9-6 just under five minutes into the game before the Knights came roaring back. A layup by
Evan Slone followed by five straight points from
Josh Scott gave Arcadia a 13-12 lead with 12:44 on the clock. Slone capped what wound up being a 14-4 run with a layup at the 10:25 mark for a 20-13 lead and the lead hovered around six until the seven-minute mark of the first half.
Â
Arcadia outscored the Lions 20-2 over the final 7:21 of the first half to take a 45-21 lead into the break. The Knights harassed Bryn Athyn to 1 for 10 shooting with five turnovers of the last 7+ minutes. While the Knights' defense was keeping the Lions from finding a rhythm, Arcadia closed out the half shooting 6 of 14 from the floor and 8 for 8 from the charity stripe.
Â
Arcadia's lead never fell below 18 in the second half. The 26.8 percent shooting mark for Bryn Athyn marked a new season-best for the Arcadia defense, eclipsing the 27.5 mark the Knights held Immaculata to on Nov. 16, and the 21 turnovers forced also stands as the Knights' best this season.
Â
The Knights have held each of their opponents under 40.0 percent shooting during their current 7-game win streak, and have accomplished the feat nine times this season.
Â
Five players reached double figures for the Knights, led by
Da'Kquan Davis' 17 points, including a perfect 10 for 10 showing at the line. Scott added 11 points, and Slone,
Kyle Reilly and
Steve Pendleton each scored 10.
Phil Pierfy scored nine points with nine rebounds, and Slone,
Jon Lott and
Will Derr all pulled in five rebounds.
Â
Stevenson III led the Lions with 15 points, and Rahim Washington added a double-double of 11 points and 10 rebounds.
Â
Arcadia will look to make it eight in a row on Saturday at Albright beginning at 3 pm.
