GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's basketball team suffered its first loss of the season at Gwynedd Mercy, 75-63, in the fifth annual Battle of 309 on Tuesday night. With Gwynedd Mercy's victory, the Griffins now hold a 3-2 advantage in the annual rivalry.
Da'Kquan Davis led the Knights with 17 points, while
Will Derr and
Steve Pendleton reached double figures with 11 and 10, respectively.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights jumped out to an early lead, but never led by more than six points.
Jacob Walsh drained a three-pointer to give the Knights a 24-18 lead with 6:08 remaining in the first half. However, the Griffins responded with a three ball of their own to cut Arcadia's lead in half. With 3:01 remaining, Gwynedd Mercy tied things up with a layup, but the Knights eventually built their lead to four points heading into halftime.
- Arcadia struggled from the field in the second half, making just nine field goals and shooting 2-12 from deep. Gwynedd Mercy scored the opening four points of the second half to immediately tie the game. After the Knights regained the lead a couple times, the Griffins put together a 6-0 run to go ahead by six points with 11:59 remaining.
- The Knights cut their deficit within one score on several occasions, but couldn't establish momentum and put together a late comeback. Gwynedd Mercy's lead reached double-digits for the first time with 2:26 remaining in regulation.

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE
- The Knights were much more efficient from the field in the opening half, shooting 46.2 percent from the field while their opponent was 34.5 percent.
- Arcadia and Gwynedd Mercy reversed trends in the second half with the Griffins shooting 46.7 percent compared to the Knights 32.1 percent.
- The Knights lost the turnover battle 14-7.
