Baseball Tripped Up By Misericordia

AMBLER, Pa. – The Arcadia baseball team was tripped by Misericordia, 13-3 Tuesday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. With the loss, the Knights slip to 10-6 on the season, as the Cougars improve to 14-6 overall.
 
Both sides traded runs in the first inning. The Knights' tally came on a Phil Pierfy double which drove in Bryan Gillen from second, tying the score at 1-1.
 
Misericordia exploded for seven runs in the second inning on four hits, a hit by pitch and three Arcadia errors to go up 8-1.
 
That score held until the sixth inning when the Cougars produced five more runs on five hits, two walks and one error.
 
AU was able to push across two runs in the ninth. Trevor Mattson doubled to leadoff the frame and later scored on an infield error. After Matt Ernst drew a walk, Gillen shot a single down the right field line, bringing in Nick Ponente, who reached on the earlier error.
 
Misericordia's offense pumped out 13 hits, including four extra base knocks. Leading the charge was Brady Madden, who tallied three hits and four RBI. Four other Cougars recorded multi-hit games.
 
As for the Knights, Gillen logged three base hits, and Mattson chipped in two more of his own.
 
Alejandro Santiago picked up the victory for the Cougars as he went 6.0 innings, allowing five hits and surrendering one run.
 
The loss went to Carson Denham as he battled through 5.0 innings. The right-hander scattered eight hits as he gave up eight runs (2 ER) to go along with two strikeouts.
 
The Scarlet & Grey get right back at it as they host Haverford Wednesday afternoon at Skip Wilson Field. First pitch is slated for 3:30 p.m.
