GLENSIDE, Pa. - The Arcadia University men's basketball team fell to Penn State Abington, 74-63, to open the 2021-22 season on Saturday night.
Jalen Watkins totaled a double-double with a team-high 16 points and 13 rebounds to go along with six blocks.
Jared Chambliss and Justin Money also recorded double-digit points for the Knights. Chambliss tallied 12 points off the bench, while Money had 11 points.
HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Knights opened the game on an 11-5 run, which was capped off by a DJ Gardner three-pointer and a Watkins layup. However, the Nittany Lions would battle back and tie the game at 19-19 midway through the opening half.
- Arcadia gained some separation late in the first half with six-straight points to regain the lead, 31-25. Penn State responded with a 11-2 run to end the half with a three-point lead, 36-33.
- The Nittany Lions expanded their lead to double-digits with 16:47 remaining in regulation. The visiting team opened the half with a 13-6 run to distance themselves from the Knights. However, Arcadia quickly cut its deficit in half with a Chambliss three-pointer and a Watkins layup, 49-44.
- The Knights tied the game at 54-54 following a Dom Vazquez three-pointer with 11:12 remaining in regulation. Moments later, Penn State put together nine straight points, 68-56, to put the game out of reach for Arcadia.
