Women's Lacrosse Opens Conference Play with Big Win over King's
GLENSIDE – The Arcadia University women's lacrosse team opened Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) play with a 16-4 win over King's College at Jean Lenox West Field on Wednesday evening.
The Knights are now 1-0 in league play and 4-6 overall.
Ashley Starkey opened the scoring less than two minutes into the game with an assist from
Maddie Ruger.
Ruger doubled the lead at 12:09 of the first quarter when she found the back of the net assisted by
Hannah McAllister.
Skylar Acker found her way into the goal column at 9:29 with an unassisted score, giving Arcadia an early 3-0 lead.
King's cut the lead to 3-1 with a score at 8:13.
Starkey got the Knights back to a three-goal advantage with 3:49 on the clock with an unassisted tally, followed by another unassisted goal at 2:37.
Ruger extended the lead to 6-1 with under two minutes remaining.
The Monarchs ended the run with 1:18 on the clock.
Starkey finished the first quarter scoring with a free-position laser with Arcadia holding a 7-2 lead after 15 minutes.
Morganne Dee got into the goal column with an unassisted tally at 11:07 followed by an unassisted score from Ruger.
Dee added a second goal at 6:42 pushing the advantage to 10-2.
Tessa O'Donnell finished the first half scoring with Arcadia holding an 11-2 lead.
Dee opened the second half scoring with a goal assisted by Starkey.
King's got its third goal at 4:27 of the third.
Acker concluded the third quarter scoring with 12 seconds remaining as the Knights held a 13-3 advantage after 45 minutes.
Ruger notched the first score of the fourth in a man-up situation followed by a free position goal from Dee making the score 15-3 with 9:20 on the clock. McAllister continued the scoring at 6:27 with an unassisted score.
The Monarchs cut the lead to 16-4 with 3:08 on the clock to finish the game.
Starkey and Ruger led the way with five points each on four goals and one assist while Dee was close behind with four goals.
Acker totaled eight draw controls while Starkey and
Hope Miller had two caused turnovers each.
Emily Griffith earned the win, stopping five shots.
Arcadia returns to action on Saturday when it travels to Lycoming College for a 1:00 p.m. MAC Freedom game.
