AMBLER - Six runs in the first and three in the fifth helped the Arcadia University baseball team to a 10-5 win over Wilkes University at Skip Wilson Field on Sunday, completing the three game sweep of the teams' Middle Atlantic Conference Freedom (MAC Freedom) series.
Kevin Wheeler drove in three runs while getting his first collegiate base hit.
HOW IT HAPPENED
-Wilkes scored two runs in the top of the first.
-Arcadia loaded the bases in the bottom of the first as
Alex Madera,
Justin Massielo, and
Ryan Smolen all reached via the walk before
Anthony Bruno hit a sacrifice fly scoring Madera and moving Massielo to third.Â
-Massielo scored and Smolen moved to second on a balk.
-
Hunter Curley doubled to score Smolen and give the Knights a 3-2 lead.
-After a pitching change,
Michael Bukowski singled to left scoring Curley.
-After
Matthew Sot walked, Wheeler brought both runners home on a single where Sot's hustle caught the Colonel defense off guard.
-Wilkes cut the lead to 6-4 in the top of the fifth.
-In the bottom of the fifth,
Trey Obarowski hit a double to right-center scoring Bruno.
-Wheeler followed with a sacrifice fly bringing home Curley.
-Obarowski came in to score on a fielding error to give Arcadia a 9-4 cushion.

Matt Donchez scored the 10th run when the Colonels' pitcher attempted to throw behind him after he took off for second, only for the throw to get away allowing him to come all the way around.
-Wilkes added a run in the top of the ninth.

Koby Staivecki earned the win, tossing 2.2 scoreless innings in relief allowing one hit with no walks and three strikeouts.

Trevor Laraia pitched the first four innings, surrendering two runs on five hits with one walk and three strikeouts.
