Falcons Deposit 19 on Knights in Shut-Out

GRANTHAM, Pa., Wednesday, April 6, 2011-- Two days removed from their own 18-0 victory over Rosemont, Arcadia University Women's Lacrosse returned to Middle Atlantic Conference play this afternoon facing the No. 15 Messiah College Falcons who, but for Arcadia's two of four shots on goal, completely shutdown the Knight's offense and tagged Arcadia with a 19-0 defeat. The Knights, drop to 2-5 (4-6 overall) in the MAC while the nationally ranked Falcons move to 6-0 in the league (9-1 overall). Arcadia is looking to Saturday's home Middle Atlantic game against visiting King's College and a hopeful return to the win column. Arcadia topped the Monarchs 18-10 on the road last season.

On Tuesday, the offensive wealth spread around the Knight's lineup with a dozen players registering points in their blanking of the Ravens. Today, Messiah would have none of it. The nation's second best scoring defense (allowing just six goals against a game) provided Arcadia four shots of their own, two of which landed on Messiah keeper Taylor Phillips. Their scoring offense, tied for 16th in Division III (with 14.00 goals scored per game) dominated time of possession, and deposited 19 goals in the back of Arcadia's net.

Arcadia's defensive-heavy lineup was able to force 15 Messiah turnovers, but they committed 16 of their own.  Junior Steph Holguin caused three of those Falcon turnovers, and senior Kelly Donahue, charged with rallying the heavy defensive pressure, added two more. Holguin registered a shot on goal of her two attempts and three ground balls, while senior Kristen Chasse found the Messiah keeper on the Knights only other shot on goal of the game. Deanna Thompson '13 and Amalie Kreitman '12 split keeper duties, with Thompson credited with the loss upon 14 goals allowed and four saves. Kreitman finished the second half with three stops on five goals allowed.

Kara Geiman led the Falcons with four goals and two assists while Cicilia Kjellman added three goals and two assists to pace 10 different Messiah players with points.
