FREDERICK, Md. - The Arcadia University men's swimming team dropped a 140-122 decision at Hood College Saturday to open the 2015-16 campaign. Sophomroe Grant Fisher placed second in the 1,000 freestyle after touching the wall with a school-record time of 10:21.32 in his collegiate debut.
Fisher was also the runner-up in the 500 freestyle after touching the wall in 5:07.84 in the 500 freestyle, and went on to finish third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 51.75 seconds.
Senior Timothy Graham and freshman Michael Melissen recorded a one-two finish in the 200 butterfly with respective times of 2:04.54 and 2:14.59, while Graham and sophomore Jacob Schellinger took the top two spots in the 100 butterfly with respective times of 55.07 seconds and 55.54 seconds. Junior Eric Lam won the 200 individual medley after clocking in at 2:03.80, and placed second in the 100 and 200 backstroke events with respective times of 56.56 seconds and 2:04.28.
Melissen was the runner-up in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:53.85 and placed third in the 200 backstroke with a time of 2:10.24, while Schellinger took second in the 50 freestyle after touching the wall in 22.75 seconds. Freshman Andrew Givone won the 100 and 200 breaststroke events in his collegiate debut after clocking in with respective times of 1:02.08 and 2:19.38.
The 200 medley relay team of Lam, Givone, Graham and Schellinger opened the meet with a second-place time of 1:412.95, while the 200 freestyle relay of Melissen, freshman A.J. Cawley, senior Collin Andrew and Schellinger were the runners up with a time of 1:32.22.
Arcadia will have over a week off until its next meet, which will see the Knights host Lebanon Valley College October 29 at 7 p.m. at Lenox Pool
