In his time at Arcadia, Abate was a member of both the men's soccer and men's tennis teams. He earned First Team All-Conference for men's soccer (2000) and was named to the NSCAA All-Region Honorable Mention team in 2000. As a tennis player, he was PAC Player of the Year (1999-2000) and garnered First Team All-Conference honors in doubles (1999-2000, 2000-2001). Abate was a member of the men's soccer team that reached the PAC Championship game in 2000. He was also voted Most Valuable Senior in 2001.

Abate owns a 21-6 career doubles record, the best record in program history in terms of winning percentage. His 21 doubles wins also ranks him eighth all-time.

On the pitch, he sits 5th all-time in points (57) and assists (17) and is tied for 9th with 20 goals.

Abate began his professional career with Hollywood Tanning Systems as director of Operations, helping a small family business grow to 350 franchised locations across the United States, Europe, and the Middle East. After nine years with Hollywood Tans, Abate transitioned to webuyanycar.com, where he is vice president of Operations. He oversees the branch network that has 56 locations from New Jersey to Florida.

Abate was a member of the final graduating class from Beaver College in 2001, earning a bachelor's degree in Psychology. He has two children: Vincent, a sophomore at Seneca High School who plays soccer and tennis, and Sophia, a freshman at Seneca who plays field hockey, basketball, and lacrosse.
